Forks Skateboard Park Winnipeg Manitoba
This photo shoot did not go as I had imagined. I had never shot skateboard photography before so I went down a rabbit hole online before the photo meetup learning as much as I could about capturing action and creating pleasing compositions with my camera in a skatepark environment. In my mind, I had envisioned action-packed sequences in the skatepark bowl with riders pulling off sick tricks that I'd freeze with a super fast shutter speed using high-speed burst mode (you know, the kind of photos you see in the magazines). It turns out that the Forks skateboard park has a very cool skate bowl, but nobody was using it that day.
What now I thought to myself. Instead, I decided to pivot and focus on the details and tell a story about the overall vibe of the skateboard park and the people who come to enjoy it. Which in the end was probably more satisfying creatively. Hopefully, this set of images conveys the culture and the community of people that gather here.
The entire series of images below was shot on a Sony a6400 and Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 lens. The shutter speed was set to 1/1000 sec. and Auto ISO.
